Location:Remote (<5% travel)
Reports to: Chief Financial Officer
The Accounting Manager oversee key accounting functions of the operation including transactional accounting, tax and audit preparation, monthly and annual closing, accounting system and sub-ledger management. The Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring that accounting processes take place in a timely manner in accordance with GAAP with sound internal controls in place. The Accounting Manager issues the preliminary financial statements of the Society and other related entities as required, ensures timely filings of tax returns, and a clean audit with no material findings. The Accounting Manager is responsible for all accounting processes related to RIMS, FRM, and RiskPac.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting Processes:
Monitors cash receipts and disbursement processing, recording of A/R, A/P and other subledger entries, and general journals.
Oversees the monthly closing process including review and approval of entries prepared by the Accounting Specialist and of reconciliations prepared by the Accounting Systems Analyst.
Ensures timely monthly (5-7 business day) and year-end financial closes.
Researches and corrects discrepancies found in the closing and reconciliation processes.
Produces financial reports including variance analyses with explanations for RIMS and its related entities (currently RIMS, GRMI, RiskPac, IFRIMA).
Oversees allocation processes and calculations and ensures that entries are prepared and posted monthly.
Taxes:
Assist quarterly (or more frequent if required) tax returns for sales tax, federal election commission filings, and ensures returns and payments are made on a timely basis.
Assist preparation and distribution of 1099s to vendors as appropriate and files state and federal returns on a timely basis. Ensures that W9s are received from all vendors during the year so that the files are complete at year-end.
Supplies outside tax preparation firm with all necessary data for preparation of IRS 990 forms for RIMS, FRM for international tax returns (e.g., Canada, Singapore, others) as required.
Annual Audit:
Assist with auditors for audit preparation and processes which includes being responsive to any requests made during the engagement and ensuring the audit timeline is achieved.
Ensures that all documentation and schedules requested by auditors are available in a timely manner.
Ensures that final trial balance is accurate and complete.
Prepares all confirmations and obtains SOC reports as requested by auditors.
Manages any internal audits conducted by the Finance department.
Financial Administration:
Works with Accounting Systems Administrator to develop and maintain complete and updated accounting procedures and to ensure that subsystems/subledgers are properly integrated with general ledger and producing all needed reports.
Works with organization staff to research questions related to financial transactions and results.
Prepares and transmits 401k payroll information to record keeper each payroll, monitors loans, and files the annual 5500 return.
QUALIFICATIONS:
a). EXPERIENCE - A minimum of 5 years experience, preferably in non-profit finance and accounting, and extensive knowledge of nonprofit fiscal management (501c3, 501c6).
b). EDUCATION - A minimum of a BA in Accounting/Finance/Business Administration.
c). COMPUTER SKILLS - Must be proficient in multiple finance technology platforms and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Experience using Intacct, Bill.com required. Experience with NetForum or other AMS, eShow or other event management system, CRM systems preferred.
